The Power of Grace-Based Parenting
The truth facing families today is a difficult one to accept. But here it is: 100% of families are dysfunctional. The reason is simple: everyone comes from a family where shame was used to help shape and develop the children of the family into responsible and productive adults. It is often an effective approach, producing the outward behaviors that parents want. Yet it has tragic consequences. For shame-based parenting also creates deep-seated emotional scars that significantly harm one’s self-image, often for the rest of one’s life.
There is another way to raise children. It is based on the way that the eternal God relates to us as Father. It has two major emphases. The dominant emphasis flows from the grace of God, where the almighty Father loves us, values us, and stays with us, even when we rebel against Him. The other – lesser – emphasis centers on discipline, where God uses our sinful behaviors to help us know a better way to live in His grace.
This five-week parenting seminar will help participants grow in grace-oriented parenting and recover from the shame-based parenting they received.
- You will learn to identify and distinguish between shame-based and grace-based approaches to personal interactions on all levels, at home, at work, and at church.
- You will understand both the destructive effects of behavior-oriented (shame-based) parenting and the person-building effects of grace-based parenting.
- You will learn specific methods to help you implement and maintain grace-based relationships in all areas of your life, and especially in your parenting responsibilities.
- You may also begin a journey of recovery as you grow in your ability to accept yourself the way God does – as imperfect but of infinite value and worth.
The Grace-Based Parenting Seminar uses a variety of approaches – slides, video clips, large and small group discussion, games and “hands on” practice – while allowing each person to participate at his/her “comfort level.”
Whether you live in a family today or come from a family; whether you are a Christian or a seeker; whether you are younger or older – you will find this seminar informative, helpful, and perhaps life-changing.
